3D printed appliances are simply appliances(expander, a space maintainer, etc) that are printed to fit on TOP of the teeth instead of being squeezed in between teeth. This means no need for uncomfortable separators, no band fitting to get the right size, and less visits before the insert. We use your 3D scan from the initial appointment, send it to the lab which prints the model and corresponding appliances according to Dr. Taylor’s instructions, then on insert day we simply add adhesive, place it on the teeth, and cure. The 3D printed appliances have a more accurate fit due to precise contouring of each tooth and less gingival irritation as the metal does not go under the gums like traditional banded appliances.
