Self-ligating brackets hold the wire in place on each tooth with a built-in clip rather than the color ties on a traditional twin bracket (not to worry we can still use the colors on these brackets!). By adding the clip and not solely relying on the color tie which stretches out over a few weeks, the clip keeps the wire in place and therefore requires fewer visits at longer intervals. The wire is held more predictably and accumulates less friction which allows consistent movement and can help reduce treatment times by as much as 6 months!
